MASKAOLIN TIPS

What is the effect of clay minerals?

Physical exfoliator: Due to their fine-grained nature, clay minerals function as mechanical exfoliators. No damage is caused to the epidermis of the skin, due to their very small particle sizes.

Cleansing: The crystal structure attracts and binds impurities from skin surface like a magnet. It adsorbs the excess oils and sebum from your skin and helps to normalise sebum production.

Improves skin condition: Provides useful minerals contributing to the healthy, natural state of the skin. Revitalizes and sooths irritated skin.

Reduces visibility of large pores: Actually, you can’t change the size of your pores. However, the elasticity of the skin around them can be improved, reducing the visibility of larger pores.

Soft skin: Clay minerals stimulate blood circulation, strengthen capillaries, leaving your skin smooth and fresh after use.

Prepare your own clay mask for your skin type and condition. Choose from our 1 or 2-component modular (base + water) mineral face mask base powders and activate it with water! This way your face mask is always fresh, homemade and simple.

What do you need to prepare your clay mask?

You will need a glass or ceramic bowl, a teaspoon, a brush or spatula (optional as you can use your hand as well) and water. If you choose to use a brush, make sure you pick a silicone or synthetic one, as these are the most user friendly versions.

1. Face Mask Base: Put 1,5 tablespoon of Maskaolin Face Mask Base in a bowl
2. Water: Add 1,5 tablespoon of water while slowly stirring the mix
3.
Dosage: Add more water if needed until you get a smooth clay paste, which is easy to spread

Step-by-step guide

How long to leave a clay mask on for?

Step 1. : Cleanse your face to remove dirt and make-up.
Step 2. : Activate your Maskaolin Face Mask Base by adding water.
Step 3. : Apply the mask to your skin with your brush/fingertips.
Step 4. : Before the clay is almost dry on your skin, rinse it off.
Step 5. : Finish up with moisturizer for your skin type.

For how long should I leave the clay mask on?

After applying your face mask on your skin, it has 3 phases. The 1st phase is called the damp phase when your skin absorbs the beneficial minerals within the mask and they work their magic. In the 2nd, dry phase, due to the continuous cooling and drying, the clay stimulates your circulation and strengthens your capillaries. In the 3rd phase the mask draws moisture/oil from the surface of the skin, due to its molecular structure. This is why you don’t need to wait until the mask completely dries. As soon as it starts to feel “tight”, rinse it off with lukewarm water.

How often should I use it?

As often as you feel like. You can apply 2-3 times a week as well. The important part is to pay attention to the signals of your skin, and base your skincare routine on that. Our skin changes with the seasons as well, so there is no one-fits-for-all routine.

How to store the Maskaolin clay powder?

The clay powder should be stored in a dry, cool place. Storing the prepared clay paste is not recommended. Make your mask fresh everytime, based on the step-by-step guide above.

5 things to know when using a clay mask

1. Choose a clay mask base for your skin type. Different types of clay minerals have distinct beneficial properties. Some are suitable for dry and sensitive skin, others are best for particularly oily skin.

2. Clay itself does not cause skin irritation and it has anti-inflammatory properties. If irritation occurs, usually it is caused by other extra ingredients / fragrance or colourant. Therefore, you can add clay masks to your skincare routine without any worries.

3. Do a patch-test first to see how your skin likes the product. You can always try, but if you have very sensitive skin, don’t exfoliate and use a clay mask on the same day.

4. Pay attention to signs of drying – if your skin starts to feel “tight”, or your mask starts to become lighter, time to rinse it off. Make sure to wash your face before it gets completely dry, as it could dry your skin out too much.

5. After using the clay mask, apply your serums with active ingredients. Guaranteed, your skin will absorb them much better. Make sure you always moisturize as a last step.
